What is in the set
A glazed ceramic chawan with a pouring spout, wide enough that a whisk can actually move in it. A hand-carved bamboo chasen, the hundred-tine kind, which is what breaks the powder up rather than stirring it around. And a fine steel sifter, the piece people skip and then wonder why their matcha has lumps in it.
Why not just a spoon and a mug
Because matcha is suspended, not dissolved. A spoon in a straight-sided mug pushes the powder around and leaves half of it stuck to the bottom in lumps; a bamboo whisk in a wide bowl breaks the clumps apart and lifts air into the tea, which is where the foam and the sweetness come from. It is the single biggest difference between matcha at home and matcha in a good cafe.
Your first bowl, step by step
Warm the bowl with hot water and dry it. Sift 2 g of matcha in. Add 60 ml of water at about 80 °C — not boiling. Whisk briskly in a W, wrist only, for about fifteen seconds, until a fine even foam covers the surface. Drink it as it is, or top with 150 ml of milk. Rinse the whisk in warm water straight afterwards and stand it tines-up to dry; never put it in a dishwasher.
Questions people ask
Does the set include matcha?
No — the set is the three tools. Most people add a 50 g tin of ceremonial matcha to it, which comes to 205 ₾ together and is the usual gift.
Is it a good gift?
It is the thing we are asked for most around birthdays and New Year. It arrives complete, it does not need a size, and it is the one gift where the person can actually use every piece of it the same evening.
How do I look after the bamboo whisk?
Rinse it in warm water after each use, never with soap, and stand it upright to dry — on its own holder if you have one. Treated that way a chasen lasts a year or more of daily bowls.
Delivery
Delivery across Tbilisi, usually the same day or the next. Message us on Instagram, or add it to the cart and check out on the site — pay by bank transfer or cash on delivery.
Wholesale
Wholesale for cafes, bakeries and shops: the 500 g and 1 kg tiers are already the wholesale price, with no minimum order beyond them. Tell us what you pour in a month and we will quote you.
Keeping it
Keep the tin closed, cool and out of the light. Matcha fades in daylight and picks up smells in a fridge, so a cupboard beats a fridge door. Once opened it is at its best within two months.
